Incumbent Republican Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer Files for Re-election in District 17

FRANKFORT, KY – Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer (R – Georgetown) has filed for re-election to continue to promote policies that create Kentucky jobs and strengthen Kentucky families. He represents Grant, Scott and southern Kenton counties in the State Senate.

“As State Senator, I will continue our work to protect taxpayers, promote transparency and accountability in government, and stand up for our conservative values,” said Thayer. “I will promote improved education and schools, as well as support Kentucky jobs.”

First elected in 2003, Senator Damon Thayer serves as the Republican Senate Majority Floor Leader. Thayer guides bills through the legislative process on the Senate floor and helps set the policy agenda. Prior to his leadership position, Thayer chaired the State & Local Government Committee and played a pivotal role in the most significant issues of the day, including pension reform. This was evidenced by his sponsorship of Senate Bill 2 (which passed in 2013), and his efforts on redistricting, election law, special districts reform, government ethics and transparency. Thayer has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association and Kentucky Right to Life. He is a member of the Scott and Grant Counties Chambers of Commerce, Scott County Farm Bureau, League of Kentucky Property Owners, and is a Kentucky Colonel.

Thayer is a two-time recipient of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s MVP Award and of the Big Hitter Award, presented by the Kentucky League of Cities. He was selected 23rd on a list of the 40 most influential people in the debate to decide the future of U.S. Pensions. This list was created by Institutional Investor Magazine, and Thayer was selected for his sponsorship of Senate Bill 2, which reformed the Kentucky Employee Pension System and was passed into law in 2013. The Grant County Republican Party honored him for outstanding community service in 2004, and the Scott County Republican Party presented him the Ira & Constance Gray Award for his dedication to Republican Party principles in 2007.

Thayer graduated from Michigan State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. He is the owner of Thayer Communications and Consulting LLC, a marketing communications firm in Georgetown. He has two children, Daniel and Katie.
