Senator Damon Thayer Re-Elected Majority Floor Leader
FRANKFORT – State Senator Damon Thayer (R-Georgetown) will continue as the Republican Senate Majority Floor Leader, following an election today by the Republican caucus in Frankfort. The term runs through 2016. Senator Thayer was unopposed, and this marks his second consecutive term as the Majority Floor Leader. The Kentucky Senate Majority Floor Leader is one of five Republican leadership positions in the Kentucky State Senate and acts on behalf of the majority party during the proceedings on the Senate floor. The Majority Floor Leader is key in guiding bills through the legislative process on the Senate floor, and helps set the policy agenda for the majority caucus.
“I am honored to be re-elected as Floor Leader, and I thank my fellow senators for their support,” Thayer said. “We will continue to push for real change in the way Kentucky does business. Our goal is to give Kentucky the tools it needs to be an economic power and create better job opportunities across the state.”
“There is no question that Damon Thayer is an outstanding leader of the majority caucus and works tirelessly in advancing the bills and policies of his caucus that will help all of Kentucky,” President Stivers said. “I think the fact that he was unopposed for his second term shows that his fellow senators believe in him and know he is the right person for this role.”
Senator Damon Thayer was first elected to the Kentucky Senate in 2003. As a member of Senate Leadership, he will serve on the Legislative Research Commission. Senator Thayer represents the 17th District comprised of Grant, southern Kenton and Scott counties.
