Week 11 of the 2022 Legislative Session
Week 11 of the 2022 regular session was unique in that the General Assembly gaveled in for a historic day of session at the Old State Capitol. If you have never toured it, I highly recommend you go. The Old Kentucky State Capitol was the third statehouse, built in 1830 following devastating fires in the previous two. It was designed by native architect Gideon Shryock in the classical Greek Revival style, modeled after the Temple of Minerva and used until 1910 when the current Capitol was built. It is a beautiful building, steeped in history and rich with artifacts of days gone by.
Week 8 of the 2022 Legislative Session
With each passing day of session, you can feel legislative efforts intensifying as lawmakers seek to enact bills important to them and beneficial to their constituents. Budget review continues in the state Senate, and in week eight of session we introduced and passed significant bills to help people across the Commonwealth.
Week 7 of the 2022 Legislative Session
We have officially crossed the halfway point of the 2022 60-day Regular Session. Week 7 of the session included a lot of legislative activity as consequential bills were introduced and more moved through the process. I want to update you on three significant matters: motor vehicle taxes, legislation introduced to address the state's nursing shortage, and the Teaching America's Principles Act, which cleared the Senate Education Committee on Thursday.
